SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A Springfield man will spend more than five years in prison for distributing heroin.According to the Department of Justice, 30-year-old Luis Oppenheimer was sentenced to five years and six months in federal court Thursday.In May 2015, Oppenheimer pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute heroin, as well as one count of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of heroin.
Court documents say the Springfield man sold heroin to an undercover federal agent in Springfield in October 2013.Oppenheimer admitted to police that, during the transaction, he accepted $400 in cash in exchange for drugs after his co-conspirator, Jose Vargas, handed heroin to the undercover agent.Vargas also pleaded guilty to the same crime in March 31, the Justice Department says.He was sentenced to one year of probation.
