Springfield PD: Man robbed convenience store, threatened clerk

Crime

A man from Chicopee was arrested in Springfield early Wednesday morning after he allegedly robbed a convenience store.

According to Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, officers were called to the store on Boston Road at approximately 1 a.m. for a report of an armed robbery.

Walsh said the suspect, who was later identified as 29-year-old Michael Thibodeau, had threatened the clerk and told her that he’d go to his car, get a gun, and kill her.

Thibodeau allegedly caused some damage to the store and got away with cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash.

When officers pulled over Thibodeau at the intersection of Willard and State Streets Walsh said they found he was driving a car that had been reported stolen out of Chicopee and had a suspended license.

Walsh said the items that had been stolen from the store were found, but no gun was found.

He is charged with armed robbery, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, threat to commit a crime, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
