Springfield police make arrest in 2017 murder case


Springfield police have made an arrest in a 2017 murder case.

According to Springfield Police Department spokesman Ryan Walsh, 27-year-old Kire Smith has been arrested in connection with the death of Corey Douglas-Huard.

The arrest comes after a nearly 13-month long investigation by the Springfield Police Department’s Homicide Unit.

Smith was taken into custody around noon Tuesday at the intersection of Johnson and Dickinson Streets on a warrant for murder and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.

Douglas-Huard was killed on Johnson Street on March 28, 2017.
