Springfield police recover 570+ bags of heroin during traffic stop

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield police seized more than 570 bags of heroin during a traffic stop Thursday night.

Springfield Police Department spokesman Ryan Walsh told 22News officers arrested 28-year-old Israel Silva-Guzman in connection with the findings. He’s been charged with possession with the intent to distribute Class A and Class B drugs, both subsequent offenses.

Walsh said Silva-Guzman was pulled over at the intersection of Bay and Catherine Street after failing to stop at a stop sign.

During the traffic stop, Walsh told 22News an open bag with 50 bags of heroin was found in the car. A further search of Silva-Guzman allegedly turned up more than 90 additional bags of heroin.

Walsh said in all, 574 bags of heroin, one bag of cocaine, and packaging items were seized during the stop.

Silva-Guzman is also facing motor vehicle-related charges.
