Springfield police take two illegal firearms off the streets

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield police officers recovered two illegal firearms during two separate incidents in the city this week.

Springfield Police Department spokesman Ryan Walsh told 22News, 18-year-old Anthony Gonzalez, of Holyoke, was arrested Thursday night after a car was shot on Oakwood Terrace. Walsh said officers found Gonzalez in the basement of a duplex with a loaded firearm stolen out of Connecticut.

Gonzalez has been charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, attempted assault and battery by means of a firearm, malicious damage to a motor vehicle, and receiving stolen property.

On Wednesday night, 20-year-old Michael Harris Jr. was taken into custody during a traffic stop on State Street Wednesday night. He was allegedly found to be in possession of a loaded firearm with a defaced serial number and three bags of cocaine.

Harris has been charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm on a public way, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, and possession of a class B drug.
