A suspect is in custody and facing multiple criminal charges after police say he stabbed another man inside a bank on Boston Road following an altercation Thursday afternoon.
Springfield Police Department spokesman Ryan Walsh told 22News 20-year-old Jovan Diaz was arrested for attempted robbery at the TD Bank near 400 Boston Road. Diaz is facing charges including armed assault with the intent to murder and armed robbery among other charges.
According to Walsh, this was not a bank robbery but an incident that occurred at a bank. Springfield Police were called to the bank around 12:25 p.m., for the incident.
The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed inside the bank by Diaz, police say. The victim is said to have been involved in an altercation outside the bank with Diaz, who followed him into the bank.
Springfield officers tracked Diaz down and arrested him.
At least a dozen marked and unmarked police cruisers were outside the TD Bank located at 412 Boston Road following the incident, which caused the bank to temporarily close Thursday afternoon.
