MILLBURY, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts substitute teacher who was fired after bullets fell from his pocket during a prekindergarten class has been placed on probation.

The Telegram & Gazette reports that Thomas Aldonis pleaded not guilty to improper storage of large capacity firearm on Wednesday and was placed in six months of pretrial probation.

Police officers were called to a Millbury elementary school in April after a teacher reported hearing bullets hit the floor of a classroom.

Aldonis was fired and removed from school property.

Police suspended the 23-year-old Aldonis’ license to carry and told him to surrender his firearms.

Authorities followed Aldonis to his home where they found 11 rifles and shotguns.

Police say it is illegal to have firearms on school property without written permission from the superintendent.
