Two Ludlow residents arrested for stealing money at St. Mary’s Church in Hampden

Two Ludlow residents accused of stealing money at the St. Mary’s Church in Hampden are facing criminal charges, according to police.

The Hampden Police Department told 22News they arrested 35-year-old Jeremy Richards and 38-year-old Kelly Starzyk on Thursday, after a lengthy investigation into donation money stolen in a depository within the St. Mary’s Church at 27 Somers Road. 

Hampden Police Sgt. Tawrin Seega told 22News officers from his department witnessed Richards and Starzyk actively stealing money from the depository and quickly arrested them. It is believed the two have been stealing money from the church for at least a month. 

Police said Richards initially gave police a different name.

Richards and Starzyk are scheduled to be arraigned in Palmer District Court on Friday on the following charges: 

Jeremy Richards

  • Larceny from a building 
  • Break into a depository 
  • Malicious damage of property 
  • Possession of burglarious tools 

Kelly Starzyk 

  • Larceny from a building 
  • Break into a depository 
  • Malicious damage of property 

Richards is facing additional charges after police say he gave officers the wrong name and attempted to conceal his identity.
