Belchertown Police are investigating two explosions that happened in town on Monday.
Police Chief Christopher Pronovost said the persons involved in the late afternoon explosions that could be heard across town have been identified and they are investigating. Chief Pronovost added that charges against those individuals are possible.
Belchertown Police Department spokesman David Squires told 22News the explosions happened in the area of Federal Street (Route 9) and Daniel Shays Highway (Rt. 202), at approximately 4:45 p.m.
Police immediately began searching for the source of the explosions, and based on information received from a resident, discovered a debris-field where they may have been set off.
“I’ve lived here for 13 years and I’ve never heard any such thing,” said Belchertown resident. “But nowadays, you can’t be surprised when things happen.”
The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, State Fire Marshall’s Office, the Belchertown Fire Department, and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms were called in Monday to help Belchertown police with their investigation.
