A Ware man is facing an OUI charge after he was arrested Friday night in Chicopee.

Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News at 9:55 p.m. police were called to 1021 Memorial Drive for a report of a multi-car crash.

Wilk said when officers arrived they found one car had crashed into another, causing a chain reaction and damaging two other vehicles.

When an officer began investigating the crash he allegedly smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from 66-year-old David Harper, the owner of the car that had crashed into the other.

Wilk said Harper allegedly had difficulties handing over paperwork and continuously dropped it, wouldn’t make eye contact with the officer, and when asked for his license handed over inspection paperwork.

He then allegedly fumbled and almost fell when officers asked him to step out of his car.

Harper was arrested and charged with a second offense of operating under the influence of liquor and fail to use care when stopping.

He was taken released on $540 bail.
