Westfield man charged with OUI; 35 nips found in car

RUSSELL, Mass. (WWLP) – A Westfield man is facing an OUI charge after he was found to have more than 30 nip bottles of liquor in his car Wednesday night.

According to Russell police, officers received a “be on the lookout” alert for a vehicle driving erratically on Route 20 eastbound coming from the area of Huntington. That vehicle was later stopped by Russell police near Highland Avenue.

Police say the driver, Brad Elder, was arrested after taking part in field sobriety tests. A search of his vehicle turned up 35 nip bottles of whiskey, most of which were empty.

Elder was scheduled to be arraigned in Westfield District Court Thursday morning.
