Westfield man sentenced to 10-12 years in jail for attacking 2 people with hammer in 2016

A Westfield man who attacked two people with a hammer in March 2016 will spend more than 10 years in jail, the Hampden District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.

The DA’s office said 28-year-old Adrian Hinds was sentenced to 10-12 years in prison for attacking a pair of roommates with a hammer in Westfield.

Hinds is said to have attacked a female who was exiting her apartment and a man who ran to her rescue was also attacked by the hammer.

The unprovoked attack happened outside of the roommates’ apartment complex where Hinds lived as well.

The Westfield man was found guilty of two counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.

Hinds was also sentenced to five years probation after his prison sentence.
