Woman accused of decapitating 7-year-old boy in New York

(WROC) – A Sweden mother is facing murder charges for the death of a child in Sweden Thursday.

Hanane Mouhib, age 36, was arraigned Friday morning for the death of Abraham Cardenas, officials say.

Deputies said they were called to a home on South Lake Road in Sweden around 8:19 p.m. Thursday for a report of a suicidal woman with a knife.

Once investigators were able to secure the scene, they found multiple people inside, including other children, the woman’s husband and another relative. Deputies say they ordered Mouhib to drop a knife, but she refused. Deputies used pepper spray and a taser to get her to drop the weapon.

As they searched the home, deputies found the body of seven-year-old Abraham Cardenas. Deputies say Cardenas had been stabbed in the back and severely cut at the neck, causing his head to be severed from his body.

Deputies say they were called to Mouhib’s home twice for mental health situations on March 5 and March 8. Both times, Mouhib was transported to the hospital for assistance. After the March 8 call. she was taken to Rochester General Hospital where she was treated until March 26.

When asked about the motive for the murder, Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter called the crime “unexplainable.” He added, “The word evil comes to mind.”

In a statement, Brockport school district officials said Abraham Cardenas was a first grader at Barclay Elementary School.

“He was incredibly vibrant and engaged learner. He was beloved by our teachers and school community. He lit up a room every time he entered it. So, we too are extremely sadden by the death of Abraham.”,” said Superintendent Lesli Myers. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to Abraham’s family, friends and all affected by this tragedy.”

We’re told Mouhib worked for Rochester Regional Health from January 2016 to January 2017. According to the health group’s website, she worked as a nurse practitioner at Rochester Mental Health Center. Before that, the College at Brockport reports Mouhib was a nursing student from Fall 2009 to May 2011 when she graduated.

Again, Mouhib is charged with murder. She is being held without bail in Monroe County Jail.

Deputies who responded to the “horrific” scene are receiving peer support services.

Statement from Sheriff Todd Baxter

“I will never find the words to adequately describe, or reconcile with what happened inside Abraham Cardenas’ home last evening. A young boy with a life full of promise ahead of him is no longer with us to hope, prosper, and fulfill his dreams,” said Sheriff Todd K. Baxter. “To our deputies and partners in law enforcement who responded and processed this gruesome scene, thank you for your professionalism, all the while putting your lives in peril. To Abraham’s school community in the Brockport Central School District, our heartfelt condolences as you try to process the loss of your student and friend.”
