Woman shot in Springfield; nearby schools placed on lockdown

The Springfield Police Department Major Crimes Unit is investigating a late Tuesday morning shooting in the city’s Forest Park neighborhood.

According to Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, police received a report of a gunshot victim at around 11:00 A.M. near Lansing Place and Dickinson Street. The woman was alert and conscious when she was taken to the hospital by ambulance, but there is no specific word on her condition at this time.

The area of the shooting is not far from multiple schools, and Springfield School Department spokesperson Azell Cavaan told 22News that the Forest Park Middle School, Kensington Elementary School, and Alderman Street campus were on lockdown.
