YSU was in lockdown after gun pulled during argument

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A lockdown at Youngstown State was lifted around 1:15 p.m. after a man accused of pulling a gun on another man turned himself in. Classes will resume at 3 p.m.

The man with a gun was described as a black man wearing a red hoodie with white lettering on it. He has dreadlocks and a black backpack.

Youngstown Community Health Center, Choffin Career and Technical Center downtown, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and the Main Library were also placed on lockdown. Those have also been lifted.

The emergency department at St. E’s will remain open. If you had an appointment or procedure previously scheduled there, you’ll need to call ahead.

Eastern Gateway Community College downtown has a Youngstown police officer coming to its campus for extra security. The college has been updating students with text messages.

YSU was warning everyone not to come to campus and if they were on campus, to shelter in place.

The situation happened at 11:10 a.m. inside Kilcawley Center.

The dispatcher said two men were arguing and one pulled a gun on the other. No shots were fired.

The man with the gun took off toward the rec center.

Police have not said if the two men are YSU students.

YSU sent students and parents alerts:

1:13 p.m. — UPDATE: The campus lockdown has been lifted. The suspect has turned himself in and is in custody. All classes will resume at 3 pm. Thank you for your cooperation.

12:01 p.m. — UPDATE: Campus remains in lockdown. Police are still investigating. No reported injuries. Will provide updates as available.

12 p.m. — THE SUBJECT WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR IS A BLACK MALE, RED HOODIE, WITH RED AND WHITE LETTERING, DREADLOCKS, AND A BLACK BACKPACK.

11:33 a.m. — ALL EXTERIOR DOORS ARE TO BE LOCKED. ALL OFFICE DOORS LOCKED. SHELTER IN PLACE TILL FURTHER NOTICE.

11:31 a.m. — THE CAMPUS IS IN LOCKDOWN. A SUSPECT IS CURRENTLY AT LARGE WITH FIREARM . LAST SEEN BY REC CENTER.
