SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Dakin Humane Society is getting ready to take in a transport of dogs from shelters in the Carolinas due to Hurricane Florence, and they need your help!

Dakin Humane Society spokesperson Lee Chambers told 22News they need to make room for the Hurricane Florence dogs by getting as many Dakin dogs adopted as they can before Monday.

“When you adopt a pet at Dakin, you’re saving two lives– the pet you bring home and the one you’re making room for!” Chambers said.

Chambers told 22News the reason they are taking in the shelter dogs from the Carolinas is to help them free up space so that they can eventually take in pets who become displaced during the hurricane.

“Displaced pets need to stay down there so their people can find them when the crisis has passed,” Chambers said.
