Deerfield could hit quota of liquor licenses

Deerfield may increase the number of liquor licenses in town, but they wants to avoid going over their quota for liquor licenses.

The town issues two different types of liquor licenses: one for on premise businesses like restaurants and hotels; and another for liquor stores and convenience stores.

They currently have two pending applications for wine and malt off premise liquor licenses, which would put them at their quota.

Deerfield resident Kurt Jobst is all for the town increasing the number of liquor licenses. “We got a small village here. Its a nice village, nice people,” he told 22News. “But I don’t know where they’d go. I don’t believe it could hurt having more competition; competition lowers prices.”

The Deerfield Selectboard is considering adding this proposal to the warrant for its April 30 Town meeting.

The Selectboard will discuss the liquor license proposal at their next meeting on Wednesday.
