You have the opportunity to give the gift of life, and you can do that right here at 22News!
22News has been hosting this annual blood drive since 2010 and we need your help to make this year’s event another big success!
Our American Red Cross blood drive starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 6 p.m. You can schedule an appointment to donate blood today by calling 1-800-Red-Cross or visit redcrossblood.org and enter code 7258.
The western Massachusetts chapter of the American Red Cross told 22News, there is a need for blood donations year round, and this month also happens to be National Volunteer Blood Donor Month.
The Red Cross is in need of all types of blood, but that they’re in dire need of O type blood, both negative and positive.
If you want to make a donation today, you just have to be at least 17 years of age, weigh no less than 110lbs and be in generally good health.
The Red Cross said people on medications for conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure can donate too!
In Massachusetts, 16 year olds can donate blood but need parental consent. You’ll also need a blood donor card or drivers license or two other forms of ID at check in.
It’s easy to get here: we’re located at 1 Broadcast Center in Chicopee, just a short distance from the center of Chicopee.
Donors will receive a $5 Dunkin’ Electronic Gift Card and a long sleeve Red Cross shirt.
The blood drive will be held here in our Mass Appeal Studio and the show will still go on live during this event. Watch Mass Appeal live starting at 11 a.m.
