If you still haven’t filed your 2018 taxes, you’re running out of time.
The deadline to file 2018 individual tax returns and pay taxes owed is Monday, April 15th for most taxpayers. But in Massachusetts, we have until April 17th, due to Patriots Day Monday.
There are some significant penalties you face if you fail to file or pay your tax balance. 22News spoke to Liberty Tax employee, Ray Maagero, in order to gain more insight on tax filing.
“Filing for an extension is an extension of time to file your tax return it’s not an extension of time to pay your taxes so you need to make your best guess as to what taxes you’re going to owe, get those paid and avoid those larger penalties because those penalties are five percent per month,” Maagero explained.
Maagero told 22News he’s seen a larger volume of people filing their taxes last minute than usual.
