ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Ten endangered sea turtles rescued from chilly Massachusetts waters late last year have been released back into the ocean off Florida.
The SeaWorld Animal Rescue Team released the Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles into the waters off the Canaveral National Seashore on Wednesday.
They were among 72 Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles rescued by the New England Aquarium in November after a mass cold stranding off the Massachusetts coast. They were transferred to SeaWorld Orlando, where most were treated with antibiotics and fluids for pneumonia.Photos: Endangered sea turtles released
SeaWorld also released a loggerhead turtle that could not submerge underwater when it was rescued from Port Canaveral in September. Officials say it was treated to reduce air buildup in its shell.
SeaWorld officials say all the turtles now are strong enough to survive in the wild.
