ENFIELD, Conn. (WWLP) – Enfield EMS is used to saving lives, human lives that is. Friday morning they found themselves saving the life of a different kind of creature.
They rescued a squirrel who had it’s head trapped in a yogurt cup.
“Sure enough there’s a squirrel stuck, in a little bit of dismay and one of our paramedics Ralph was able to put a blanket over it, capture it and EMT Keith was able to remove the cup from its head.” said Enfield EMS Chief Gary Wiemokly.
Enfield EMS didn’t respond to a call for this squirrel, this lucky squirrel happened to be in the right place at the right time.
“This was in our own driveway, it just worked out timing that the crews happen to be here. We don’t go looking for animals in distress and we really do not have an animal response team,” said Enfield EMS Chief Wiemokly.
Another quick thinking EMT captured the whole incident on camera, after posting it to their Facebook page the squirrel has gone viral.
While it appears the squirrel took this cup out of a dumpster in the parking lot, Enfield EMS warns that littering can lead to dangerous situations like this one for animals.
