SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Boston-based Irish Rockers, the “Dropkick Murphys” will be the first Band booked for MGM Springfield’s outdoor plaza, and it’s for a good cause.
The Dropkick Murphys will play Saturday August 25th, the day after MGM’s grand opening next week.
Proceeds will benefit the “Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Sullivan Foundation,” named for the Springfield Native who was killed in a terror attack in Chattanooga, Tennessee three years ago.
John Sullivan told 22News the band had been contacting his family about supporting the foundation
The show sold out quickly.
“People are saying fifteen minutes, but I think an hour, two hours tops,” said Sullivan. “We knew this was going to happen, that’s why we tried to keep it a secret for so long. They reached out to us a couple months ago, with MGM getting involved. It goes to show you they really care about the community.”
Sullivan said there will be a table set up at the concert for people to sign up for the annual Thomas J. Sullivan 5k in September.
