The event wrapped up about 10 p.m., and hundreds of the casinos VIP guests came out for a look inside before the grand opening Friday morning.
After years of planning and construction, and billions of dollars invested, MGM Springfield has finally arrived.
One day ahead of the general public, the casino’s selected guests were told: “in a city that is no stranger to firsts, be among the first to experience the hospitality only MGM can deliver.”
Guests got to roam the casino’s 125,000 square foot gaming floor and try their hand at card games, craps, and slots.
Armory Square was filled with fire pits, and the plaza was set up with a stage ahead of the sold out Dropkick Murphys concert planned for Saturday night.
The mayor, city councilors, and radio personalities Bax and O’Brien were among the roughly 2,000 VIPs in attendance Thursday night, a day before the public can finally pass through the doors.
MGM’s parking garage will be open Friday, but the 3,400 spaces are expected to fill up quickly. People are encouraged to park at the Big E in West Springfield.
Gate 9 parking will open at 6 a.m. and a shuttle will take you to the casino every five to 10 minutes throughout the day.
You can also take “The Loop” public transportation after the procession. It will pick you up from Union Station and bring you right to the casino.
Friday, a procession around the exterior of the casino will step off at 10:30 a.m., and the doors and gaming floor officially open to the public at 11 a.m.
