GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – For the 13th consecutive year, CISA’s Senior FarmShare program is offering low-income seniors low cost, locally-grown fresh fruits and vegetables. The program runs for 10 weeks beginning in July.

Eligible seniors must be over the age of 60 and have an income below $23,000, or a total household income below $32,000. CISA will choose 420 seniors by a lottery.

The seniors selected will only pay $10 for $125 in produce. The produce will be delivered weekly by 1 of 10 local farms, including the Lyonsville Farm in Colrain and the Red Fire Farm in Montague.

Greenfield resident John Talbot told 22News, “I think its a very good idea. Good for the farmers and the seniors that could use it, absolutely.”

“I feel like seniors can be kind of a group that gets missed out on produce and things like that,” Pine Hill Orchards manager Brady McElaney said. “So I think this is a great thing.”

Eligible seniors can apply at one of 14 distribution sites across the Pioneer Valley, most are senior centers. In Greenfield, seniors can apply at the Greenfield Farmer’s Market. The application period ends June 1st.
