Fifth Street Bridge in Montague closing for construction

The Fifth Street Bridge in Montague will be closed for the month of January for construction.

MassDOT announced the bridge closure that begins Monday, January 7.

The closure is so crews and contractors can make repairs to the bridge deck and railing.

During the time of the closure, all traffic will be directed to use the Gil Montague Bridge, which carries Avenue A over the Connecticut River.

The White Bridge, which carries Turners Fall Road over the Connecticut River, will remain open up to the Fifth Street Bridge for local access only.

There will be signs in place to guide drivers during the closure.

MassDOT is encouraging drivers to take alternative routes, if possible, to avoid delays.

Drivers are asked to reduce speed and use caution when driving in this area.
