Fire leaves 8 without home on Somerset St. in Springfield

Eight people are without a home after a house fire on Somerset Street Sunday afternoon.

Springfield Fire Spokesman Dennis Leger told 22News crews were called to 22 Somerset St. around 2:04 p.m., where they found a second-floor fire that had stretched out to the attic area of the home.

Leger said the fire caused extensive damage to the second and third floor of the home, with water and smoke damage to the first floor and basement.

Five residents from the first floor and three residents from the second floor are being assisted by the Red Cross. No injuries were reported.

The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad are trying to figure out how the fire started.
