Friends of Children hold annual Red Shoe Ball in Northampton

A unique gala event to benefit children in the foster care system.

Friends of Children held their annual Red Shoe Ball at Hotel Northampton Friday night. The theme of the event is inspired by Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz who clicks her red heels to find home.

Jane Lyons, the director of the organization told 22News the non-profit is dedicated to supporting and advocating for neglected youth.

“We know that some kids will never go home and we hold this event to keep people mindful of the young people who might age out of foster care who need the community to care deeply about their wellbeing,” Lyons said.

About 10,000 children enter the foster care system each year in Massachusetts.
