In less than 4 months, the hard hats will come off, and the doors will open up.
MGM Springfield announced Thursday that they’ll officially open for business on August 24th.
MGM Springfield General Manager, Alex Dixon told 22News, their plan is to bring gaming, shopping, and entertainment to the hub of the Pioneer Valley. “We’ve got a great steakhouse, a beautiful 250-room hotel, well over 25-hundred slots, 93 tables, a poker room, bowling, dining, a full integrative experience here in downtown Springfield.”
It also means new jobs. Dixon said hundreds of jobs are still up for grabs, but they hope to have them all filled by mid-summer, in preparation for opening day.
The announcement came just days after rumors started circulating, that MGM had interest in purchasing Wynn Resorts casino in the eastern part of the state. Under the state’s gaming law, that would require MGM to sell their Springfield casino.
Dixon told 22News, they’re completely invested in the city of Springfield. “We don’t comment on rumors or speculation, but we’re really here to affirm our commitment to Springfield.”
