Government shutdown impact on food stamp recipients

News

Western Massachusetts food stamp recipients may have to turn to Beacon Hill to feel secure about the food stamps they now receive.

One in nine residents across the state is part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program known as SNAP.

Concerns about the SNAP program surviving the partial government shutdown past February has prompted the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts to call on Governor Charlie Baker to prepare a statewide disaster plan.

The governor is being asked to ensure stability for families impacted by the government shutdown.
