Greek flag raised in Springfield ahead of Glendi opening

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Greek flag is flying outside Springfield City Hall, heralding the start of Glendi, the city’s annual celebration of Greek heritage.

Friday, Mayor Domenic Sarno was surrounded by leading members of the western Massachusetts Greek-American community as the flag was raised.

Glendi is in its 38th year, and features food, dancing, and love of culture. Father Christopher Stamos told 22News, that Glendi provides even more to nourish the soul.

“Tours of the magnificent churches that most people drive by thousands of times and never go in, and it’s more beautiful than outside,” Stamos said.

Glendi begins Friday at 5:00 and continues until 11:00. On Saturday, the festival runs from noon to 11:00 P.M. and on Sunday from noon to 7:00. All the festivities are at the Greek Cultural Center, located at 22 St. George Road in Springfield.Click here for more information about Glendi 2016.
