Grocery stores stocking up on Super Bowl party necessities

While the Patriots are preparing for the Super Bowl, residents across western Massachusetts will soon be preparing for their Super Bowl parties.

Super Bowl parties aren’t anything new here in New England. Local grocery store owners told 22News beginning next week, they are expecting a lot of people to come in and shop for their Super Bowl goodies.

In the weeks leading up to the big game, grocery stores like Big Y make sure to stock up on all the Super Bowl party items.

Big Y West Springfield Store Director Ed Williams said once he found out the Patriots made the Super Bowl, he made sure all the departments had the big game necessities.

“Cupcake platters in the bakery department, wings of course in the meat department,” said Williams. “Pizzas, grinders, fruit and veggie platters. Storewide, everyone gets involved and has something to offer for the party.”

But out of all the food, Williams says the fan favorite is always the wings. Big Y receives wing orders several days ahead of Super Bowl Sunday.

Williams said most customers shop the Saturday before the game with the big rush coming in on the morning of the Super Bowl.

According to the National Retail Federation, about 27 percent of Americans plan to attend a Super Bowl party.
