Hatfield approves proposed marijuana manufacturing facility

News

A cannabis manufacturing facility could soon come to Hatfield. The Hatfield Planning Board approved a special permit on Wednesday to have a cannabis manufacturing company operate in the town.

The marijaua company Treeworks will be located at 3 West St. the location of the former Zapka’s Garden Center.

Treeworks will sell products made on site to dispensaries and other retail locations. Products that will be manufactured include edible gummies and creams.

Northampton resident Josh Yearsley told 22News that “Marijuana is a substance that, although it has had relatively limited research because it’s been illegal at the federal level, all the research that I’ve read, compared to a lot of things that are already legal, it’s relatively safe.”

Is it not yet known when the facility will open for business; the company’s application still has to be approved by the state.

Recreational marijuana was made legal in Massachusetts in 2016.
