Cancer survivor’s cross country walk reaches western Massachusetts

SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WWLP/WDTN) – Cancer survivor Kevin Fern is walking from Manhattan Beach, California, to Boston, Massachusetts.

His journey is all about raising awareness and fundraising for childhood cancer camps. 22News caught up with him in Southwick Thursday afternoon.

Throughout his journey, Fern carries an IV pole along with him to help symbolize the struggle children face when fighting cancer.

The pole is also covered with wristbands that have names of kids impacted by the deadly disease.

“I can’t stress enough what this has been to the community out there and the families that have reached out to us when we carry that child’s name. For them, they’re part of this and it’s almost like somebody is fighting for their child,” Kevin said.

His journey continues through Massachusetts on Thursday.

If you would like to donate to the cause, visit Kevin’s IV Pole website.
