Two omicron subvariants are continuing to fuel significant community spread across New England.

CDC data shows that these subvariants are responsible for 98% of cases in New England. That’s compared to about 97% nationally.

Springfield Health and Human Services Commissioner Helen Caulton Harris told 22News the city is also seeing an increase in cases, however those that are testing positive may not be life threatening.

“COVID cases continue to rise. Last week we had two-hundred and fifty cases, this week it’s three-hundred and fifty cases. Our cases are continuing to rise, and we understand that there are hospitalizations that are happening but severe illness appears to be less,” said Caulton-Harris.
