The Springfield Water and Sewer Commission called attention today to the national observance of “Imagine a Day Without Water”.
Executive Director Joshua Schimmel showed 22News what’s being accomplished at the Waste Water Treatment plant on Bondis Island
“40 million gallons a day goes through this plant. We see up to 67 million gallons a day. With wet weather at this plant and returned clean to the Connecticut River. The drinking water plant takes raw water from Cobble Mountain Reservoir and we treat on average about 30 million gallons a day, and we treat up to 100 million gallons a day of drinking water.”
Each day a quarter of a million people drink water processed by the Springfield Water and Sewer commission staff, that’s about 25 percent of western Massachusetts.
