ORANGE, Mass. (WWLP) – Police in Orange are reminding residents to be careful when picking up litter and debris from public spaces.

The Orange Police Department said that while they’re happy to see residents cleaning up, they should be mindful of needles when doing so.

Police recommend wearing gloves made of puncture-proof material, such as leather, and using a small trowel or rake to dig around in the dirt instead of your hands.

If you do find a needle when cleaning up, you should flag it and call your local police department. Someone with proper safety equipment to remove and dispose of the needle will come to get rid of it.
