Protecting yourself against West Nile Virus

Health

West Nile Virus has been detected in Wilbraham.

So far, there haven’t been any human cases of West Nile Virus in Massachusetts, but it’s still something you should be aware of.

The virus was detected in mosquito samples from Wilbraham.

There have been nearly 250 positive mosquito samples detected in the state, so far this year.

To avoid the virus, it’s best to wear long sleeves and pants, and avoid peak hours, which are from dusk to dawn.

Experts recommend using bug sprays with a 30 percent DEET content or higher, except for young children.

Wet weather, like we had Saturday can also attract mosquitoes since they tend to go toward bodies of still water.
