Some in western Massachusetts getting their flu shot early

Health

We’re almost at that time of year again, cautious people are  lining up earlier than usual to get their flu shot.

Following reports of ten confirmed flu cases aboard a recent international flight, western Massachusetts residents aren’t taking any chances.

Elderly, pregnant women, and  small children are all at high risk to get the flu.

The Big Y Pharmacy on Cooley Street in Springfield has been offering vaccinations to concerned customers as well as employees.

The CDC recommends that workers who have a fever and respiratory symptoms stay at home until 24 hours after their fever ends.

Big Y Wellness Center Pharmacist Kristi Masciadrelli said it normally takes two weeks for your flu shot to become fully effective.

Flu season, usually starts as early as October and its peak season goes from December until February.
