More seniors and their children are looking for health and living services.

Community members from across western Massachusetts were invited to learn about health and wellness.

The third annual Successful Aging Summit was held at the Linda Manor Extended Care and Assisted Living facility in Northampton. It addressed ways to stay healthy as you age. Presentations were offered on how to be proactive physically and mentally.

There were classes on tai chi for health and relaxation, Medicare, and healthy aging for men.

Stephanie Zelazo told 22News, “We’re always focused on doing this sooner, getting the education sooner, learning sooner before a loved one ends up in crisis. Its difficult folks do well for a very long time and then all of a sudden they don’t, and then it’s a what now.”

There are different types of care. Extended and long-term care is for people with Alzheimers or dementia. Assisted care allows elderly people to live on their own.

The event not only gives people a physical care perspective but an educational care perspective as well.
