Air quality is a number used to show how polluted the air currently is.
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has issued an Air Quality Alert for western Massachusetts until 11 p.m. Tuesday night.
This means ground-level ozone concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy levels.
In other words, the air is dangerous for sensitive groups, such as those with asthma or the elderly.
And people felt the heat in Northampton.
“It’s really hard, especially to sleep at night sometimes, and it’s hard to breathe in this heat,” Maddy Braun told 22News.
To make sure you stay safe in this heat, reduce long or intense outdoor activities.
If you experience coughing or shortness of breath, you should head inside with air conditioning.
