The landmark Hofbrauhaus restaurant in West Springfield will close permanently on Sunday afternoon following the Easter Sunday meal.
22News caught up with owner Joe Stevens at his familiar spot in the Hofbrahaus kitchen on Friday. He’s owned the iconic restaurant for 30 years.
Stevens told 22News what he’ll miss most after a 42 year career in the restaurant business.
“I’m going to miss the everyday pace of the restaurant,” Stevens said. “You know, not knowing what’s going to happen every day. We could have 50 people, we could have 500 people.”
And what happens to the restaurant’s elegant collection of beer steins and other artistic items? Joe Stevens expects to have them sold within a few weeks.
He said the collection had been insured for half a million dollars.
Stevens is proud the restaurant is closing on a high note. All the tables have been booked this weekend right through Easter Sunday afternoon.
