SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – Easter Sunday is here, which means millions of Christians around the world will be celebrating.

Easter Sunday is the Christian faith’s most celebrated holiday. The holiday is foundational to the Christian faith since it signifies the day Jesus conquered death three days after he was crucified.

Eric Fernandes of South Hadley told 22News, “Easter is so important because it brings all your family members together and you get to do extracurriculars like going to church and having a good meal and just being together with your family, it’s awesome.”

Many churches see a major uptick in attendance for Easter services and masses. Easter is celebrated by both Catholics and Protestants. Orthodox Christians celebrate next Sunday.

Local shelters and churches hosted Easter dinner for members of the community throughout the day.
