CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The COVID-19 pandemic led to the shutdown of many businesses, both large and small.

Some were able to reopen with limitations during the warmer months, but the coming of cold weather may put them back one square one. We’re already seeing a surge in coronavirus cases, and Governors across New England are instituting travel and business operations restrictions.

Back in March business leaders expressed concern that restrictions and shutdowns could result in businesses closing their doors for good. The 22News I-Team wanted to find out just how many businesses in our region have closed due to the pandemic.

The 22News I-Team contacted the state and multiple organizations that track business trends about closings, and began looking into how that information is reported and recorded. What we found out may surprise you.
