Massachusetts made the switch to all-electronic tolls for the turnpike in October 2016.
In the past year and a half, there have been fewer accidents on the Pike, but the lack of toll booths has made it easier for out of state drivers to get a free ride.
22News requested financial data from the MassDOT and found the state is missing out on millions of dollars. The state is owed $15-million in outstanding toll fees from out of state drivers without EZ Pass transponders. Before the gantries went live that number was less than $1-million.
