Massachusetts’ prison population has declined in recent years but prison spending is still on the rise. How much of that spending is on long term health care for inmates?

The 22News I-Team discovered the state has one of the country’s oldest prison populations with nearly 1,600 Massachusetts inmates over age 55.  Some of these older inmates are suffering from serious illnesses and require constant care.

The I-Team went to the statehouse to see what your lawmakers are doing to bring down costs and spoke to one sheriff about the health cost situation at local jails.
