If you’re caught littering, you could lose your license

News

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Massachusetts is one of three states where a driver’s license can be suspended if you’re caught throwing trash or garbage out of your car window.

Westfield Police told 22News flicking a cigarette out of your car also counts as littering in Massachusetts.

“Littering looks bad in every community. In the dry season, especially with all the drought we’ve been having, the possibility of a fire starting, brush fire starting, a wild fire starting is very high,” said Westfield Police Sgt. Jeffrey Baillargeon.

According to MALegislature.gov, if you or one of your passengers are caught littering, your driver’s license could be suspended for up to 7 days.
