InFocus: Preventing and diagnosing birth defects

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP)–According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention birth defects are the leading cause of infant mortality in the United States. One out of 33 babies in this country are born with a birth defect, nearly 120,000 every year.

This week on 22News InFocus we’ll have two half hours dedicated to information about birth defects and pre-term births in our region.

In the first half hour we’ll be discussing the types and causes of birth defects, as well as the current testing and diagnosis options with a doctor from Baystate Medical Center.

In the second half, we’ll be talking with a representative from the March of Dimes, an organization that has been dedicated to pre- and post natal care of babies and mothers for over seven decades.

Watch 22News InFocus Sunday at noon. If you miss either program, you can watch them in full on our website,
