NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – The Hotel Northampton was evacuated early this evening following a fire in the basement laundry room.

Northampton Deputy Fire Chief David Gagne told 22News the fire started above two industrial washers and is believed to have been started by an electrical issue, but the exact cause is not known at this time.

After receiving the call, firefighters did a complete, room-to-room sweep of the building to make sure everyone was able to get out safely. Gagne said firefighters cut electrical power and ventilated the hotel to remove all the smoke.

No injuries were reported.
