The Healthy Incentives Program, or HIP, was suspended last month for going over its budget.
HIP reimburses SNAP recipients for the benefits they spend on fruits and vegetables.
If a customers make a $1 donation, the Amherst farm will match that dollar, resulting in every $10 you spend, you will get $2 off your purchase.
Co-owner of Simple Gifts Farms Jeremy Barker-Plotkin spoke with 22News on the benefits of the program.
“We’re offering a program that allows people from the community to help support SNAP customers and we’re also supporting them as well,” said Barker-Plotkin.
Twenty percent of their business was from the HIP program and the owners said they’ve been losing business since the program got suspended.
They say this new program will hopefully help get their business back while helping those who want fresh produce.
