Local bars still busy despite Patriots playoff bye week

Even though the Patriots had a bye week, bars in the area were still busy with people watching the NFL Wild Card Round.

The NFL Wild Card Weekend drew dozens of football fans to local bars, as two wild-card teams from each of the two conferences head to the NFL postseason along with four division champions.

Chicopee’s Rumbleseat Bar & Grille, on School Street, had quite the crowd Sunday afternoon as the Los Angeles Chargers faced the Baltimore Ravens.

Bartender Hannah Fitzgerald said no matter who’s playing, it’s a full house, “We have a really diverse crowd with or without the Patriots playing and we have the NFL Sunday Ticket, so we play every game. We’re always busy.”

It may be a slow start on Football Sundays at Poor Richards Live Music Bar & Grill, located on School Street in Chicopee, but when it comes to Sunday Night Football — guests go crazy over their wings.

“We have 50 cent wings, jumbo wings, so we get a lot of people to come in for that, probably later on,” said Jake Torrey, Poor Richards Live Music Bar & Grill assistant manager. “We get a later crowd, but if the Pats are playing it’s packed.”

So you might want to go ahead and clear your schedule for next weekend because the Patriots will go head-to-head with the Chargers in the NFL Divisional Round starting at 1:05 p.m. in Foxboro.
